The following was posted on UPAC's website
(www.upac.ca) this afternoon:
"On February 23, 2010, UPAC received notice that the Exemption allowing
Basic Ultralights to operate in Class E airspace
has been signed by Transport Canada.
Effective immediately, Basic Ultralights equipped
with a fixed or portable altimeter can legally operate in Class E airspace. No
approvals are required. No radios are required.
Basic Ultralights on cross country flights in Class E airspace must also have
a portable or fixed magnetic compass or a Global Positioning System (GPS)
receiver."
There is also background and expiry info plus the text of the exemption in
both English and French on the website.
